It was the meeting of two excellent Edmonton businesses on Friday May 13, 2011! Local designer extraordinaire Stanley Carroll staged a pop-up shop at Shag Hair Studio!
Stanley Carroll has been cause for a lot of hype in the past few months in the local fashion scene! First, he made an amazing comeback to Western Canada Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer season after a brief hiatus from the shows! He showed very modern, stylish clothing for anyone and everyone to wear this season and his collection received rave reviews!
Now Stanley Carroll is at it again staging a pop-up shop at Shag Hair Studio on 109 street and 105 avenue in Edmonton. Up for sale in this excellent venue were many pieces from Stanley’s most recent collections, along with some classics that are always in demand with his customers! One of these in-demand pieces was a short-sleeved, button-up shirt with a twist – the cuffed sleeve! Now men can wear their cufflinks on a short-sleeved shirt, which was the most ingenious thing I have seen in a while! Definitely an excellent concept!
My friend, and local blogger, Marie was also at the event and it was excellent to catch up with her at such a fashionable event!
I also had Stanley answer some questions to gather his thoughts on a few different topics!
Q: How would you describe the importance of partnerships between local designers (like yourself), and local businesses like Shag Hair Studio?
A: I feel that interaction between different but like-minded individuals in any industry can be of great benefit, not only to themselves, but their industry as well. It can definitely result in successful projects that would otherwise not be possible.
Q: What would you recommend any young and upcoming designers keep in mind as they develop a label and try to gain local popularity?
A: For anyone working as a designer, you must first of all realize that you are in fact competing for the same dollar as all the other designers from all over the world that have designs available here. A lot of people will try to support local talent, but ultimately will only want to spend their money on those pieces that they like best because of quality, fit, uniqueness, price etc. So always fight to keep your standards high, earn respect and trust and never take that for granted!
Q: What do you think is the most important thing for fashionable Edmontonian men and women to keep in mind for their Summer 2011 look?
A: I feel that if people are thinking about what to look for in planning their wardrobe for this summer, this it’s a great season to experiment with a bit more of your own personal look. Play with color, and play with different shapes and silhouettes (such as more volume).
Overall it was an excellent night for fashion! It’s excellent the effort that local designers, like Stanley Carroll, put into our local fashion community! We are seeing the support for local talent grow each season!
