Modern Minimalism.

The sun is shining, the trees have budded, and thoughts of summer activities are on everyone’s mind! I recently shot and edited these photos of men’s fashion for the upcoming season!

Men’s fashion usually sees minor edits and changes to trends each year. This year, a more structured short is definitely in and we’re even seeing some exciting colors! Shorts, for the most part, are being worn about mid-thigh this year – which is short for menswear! If you have shorts that cut off just above your knees, it’s easy to create this shortened look by rolling the leg up into a cuff (usually rolling twice works best). Also, play around with your own version of color blocking by incorporating bold colors, or a combination of more muted shades to give a variety of looks.

In the following looks Mitchell is wearing a muted-pink Top Man Blazer which is a fantastic, structured piece! I’ve paired it with a pair of bright yellow Club Monaco shorts which were rolled up twice creating a cuff. Because the colors of both the shorts and the blazers were more bold, a dark brown v-neck was the perfect compromise to bring everything together. As for shoes, this look is a little bit preppier with a pair of brown, buckled dress shoes. This is something that you can easily swap out for espadrilles or sandals to make the look more casual.

In this set the tone is much more subdued and faded – with lots of greys. Mitchell is wearing an excellent pair of very worn-looking and faded H&M denim shorts along with a grey Top Man trench coat in the second shot. Also, a light-weight hooded knit jacket is best worn under the trench so you can transition through each temperature level a summer day might dish out! Grey is always a color you can feel confident in rocking because it isn’t as harsh as black, and as easy to stain as white. Best of both worlds! To make the look edgier, Mitchell has on a pair of black combat boots. You can swap these out for some slip on deck/boat shoes or mocassins depending on your mood, and your closet!

For when you need to be a little more urban, you can always put on a medium to light wash pair of jeans and always have a good look! Mitchell is wearing an excellent pair of distressed denim which looks great on him but does not work for everyone’s overall look. In that case, you could very easily wear a pair of jeans without the tears and distressing. The key is to stick to a lighter variety and you’ll be golden! Also, summer brings the opportunity to cuff up our pants, and I highly suggest you do so. The cuff is like an accessory, but for your pants and always looks great! I chose a simple black v-neck for this look because we want to keep the layering to a minimum in the high heat of summer afternoons. However, on a cooler day you can definitely layer a cardigan overtop in either a muted tone or a more bold color depending on your mood. I also chose a simple black espadrille for this look which you can find at stores like H&M for a super low price. They’re stylish AND cost effective! Of course, substituting for an excellent pair of flip-flops is always optional.

In the final look, Mitchell is wearing a great pair of vibrant red shorts paired with a denim shirt and stripes. This is a perfect combination because of texture, color, and pattern. We get texture from the denim shirt, color from our red shorts, and pattern from the stripe. whenever you are looking to put together a layered outfit you should always keep that formula in mind. There are many more ways to create a layered outfit, but that’s a good basic to get you started. Once you’ve mastered this you can work your way up! As for shoes, I chose a pair of brown slip-on moccasins which balanced our bold colors/textures/patterns. Once again, a nice pair of flip-flops are always an excellent alternative!

After seeing this High Gloss White set of men’s looks for Summer 2011, I hope to see a lot men out enjoying the warm weather wearing some great fashion! It’s very easy to stay on trend as long as you take this advice and apply it to your own personal style, body type, and age. Good luck everyone, and happy shopping!
