Bamboo Ballroom + high-res version

The lovely ladies over at the Bamboo Ballroom on 104 Street (just off Whyte Ave) hosted an absolutely marvellous Summer Shopping event on June 13th, 2011.

It was a fabulous evening of summery fashions, hair and makeup ideas, and of course blogging! I ran into all the who’s who of Edmonton bloggers while I was there which made it a great night!

Nicola Gavins was our makeup expert for the night and she dished the need to know trends for the season!

Pastels: These are your mint green, lilac or similar tones. Apply these in a sheer, soft wash method to acheive the best look!

Neutrals: Always clean, minimal, and pure but with a nice radiance. Go for tones that compliment your natural eye and skin color.

Sunkissed: This year, go for coppers and golds, they are richer and more metallic than the nude tones.

As always, the makeup looks and colors you choose are dependent on your personality. You need to be comfortable in what you’re wearing, and really there are no rules – so explore!

Suki Kaur, from Ponytails + Horseshoes, was our resident hair diva and she gave me her insight into the seasons trends.

She says to go a little out of your comfort zone with your hair, because a style is not permanent and will be gone in one wash! So have fun, play with product, and explore some waves or curls.

This year is all about natural texture, with either a soft fringe or no fringe at all. An intense side part is also a way to be red hot this season.

Embrace your natural wave and curl and let those roots grow out a little for that effortlessly stylish look. Balayage is a technique where your stylist paints on highlights by hand, and it is a great natural look. You can have a little, or a lot – whatever suits your style!

Also, for all the grads and brides out there, Suki is saying to stick to a soft, sewn updo this year rather than the traditional bobby pinned look.

I fell in love with Ax+Apple jewelry at this event, and I will be back very soon to keep my collection growing. This is definitely your it store for accessories on Whyte!

It was so much fun to catch up with all of my lovely blog friends, and even meet some new ones! I snapped some shots of the action from the fashionable evening.

The ladies at the Bamboo Ballroom really know how to throw a party, and I cannot wait for the next one (which I hear is in the works). They host private shopping events by appointment, and carry some absolutely gorgeous pieces in a really beautiful store! I highly suggest everyone go check out the store the next time you decide to take a stroll down Whyte!
