Most Canadians know what it’s like to feel the January blues. It is one of the longest, coldest, and darkest months of the year for us and we really start craving sunshine and blue skies more than ever. Lately I’ve been working with the monochromatic trend – which is going to be really hot for spring. Basically it means you are putting your outfit together with either nearly-matched colours/tones, or you are staying within a slightly broader, but specific colour range. I’ve been adapting the trend for the current weather conditions and wearing all brown tones, in lieu of brighter colours, with subtle hits of rich green or soft pattern. In this case, the pocket on my shirt from Simons is what adds that little bit of pattern with the camouflage pocket. It is definitely best to dress based off of your mood as well as the conditions around you. We’re in for a really cold week in Edmonton, as in -38C cold, and it is going to be tough to make it through this final stretch of winter. In the mean time, I am determined to embrace the last few months I have left of experimenting with my winter wardrobe as I look forward to, and shop for, the upcoming Spring season!

Having only been open for a few weeks, Simons is quickly becoming a high-profile fashion retailer in the Edmonton market. I was invited to attend their pre-opening media preview back in October, and what I saw truly blew me away. I have been back a few times since and have a way better idea of where things are in the store, and what types of things I know I can find in their different sections. It was like being a kid in a candy store touring their 115000 sq. ft. location prior to their opening, and it left me wanting more. I have fallen in love with their more fashion-forward men’s line along with many of their Simons Maison home furnishing accessories. Clothing selection aside, it is the design of the store itself that makes it a pleasure to shop in – and this careful attention to the overall shopping experience is something that has been severely lacking in our other local, large-scale department stores. I was happy to learn that the company is still family-run and you can see the care and attention that comes from that connection that the two founding brothers have with their company. I am so thrilled that Simons has finally opened it’s doors, and I highly recommend that everyone check it out if you have the chance – especially with christmas parties and gift-giving season fast approaching! Happy shopping!
