Winter Chill.

March. I have always considered this month to be the start of my New Year as opposed to January because everything starts to come back to life, slowly. The days are longer, the sun is warmer, the snow is melting and yet it remains completely unpredictable. We had an amazing start to the month but this past week has been anything but spring-like.

If the cold is going to stick around, then I will do everything I can to make the most of it. I just bought this amazing jacket (the “Jerome”) from Oak + Fort last week, and I am totally in love with the rich green, structured simplicity, and high collar. Although it is a bit more of a spring coat, I simply layered up underneath with an outerwear vest and oversized scarf to keep me warm. I am so happy that this piece is so transitional because it means I’ll get to enjoy it long into the spring as well! Sadly, the jacket is not available for online purchase as Oak + Fort only sells their men’s apparel in stores at this time.

Love Is Blue.

While everyone was wearing pink and red tones to celebrate Valentine’s day, I chose to stick to monochromatic, denim-on-denim blue/black palette with accents of white and silver. It happened to be very cold in the city today, and I really just wanted to be warm. Also, my boots were a huge help in keeping me upright all day (instead of falling constantly). We’ve had a few days this week where the sun was out, and the snow was melting, but sadly it has all turned to ice as the temperature dropped back below zero.

Schoolhouse Rock.

I had a really fun time playing around in the photo studio at school the other day while snapping these photos with a classmate of mine. There are so many cool, vintage things that have accumulated in the cabinets over the years to use for various photo projects – and I was starting to think of fun ways of using them in the future! This outfit was really just about being casual, comfortable, and effortless – and really, with 8am class it needs to be! One of my all time favourite colour combinations, that I think is a total classic, is navy, white, and brown. It is a really easy colour palette to wear and put together in the morning. That, in combination with a really cozy cardigan and soft v-neck helps make the early morning design-school woes slip away. I also just bought the pants a few weeks ago from Zara, and I am totally in love with the contrast fabric on the knee! It totally gives the pants a nod to their cargo pant cousins, without being quite so bulky and overbearing. A little bit of utilitarian chic is always welcome in my wardrobe, and I think it makes for a great balance to some of the softer pieces I own! Happy hump day everyone!
