Love Is Blue.

While everyone was wearing pink and red tones to celebrate Valentine’s day, I chose to stick to monochromatic, denim-on-denim blue/black palette with accents of white and silver. It happened to be very cold in the city today, and I really just wanted to be warm. Also, my boots were a huge help in keeping me upright all day (instead of falling constantly). We’ve had a few days this week where the sun was out, and the snow was melting, but sadly it has all turned to ice as the temperature dropped back below zero.

Winter Fragrance Post

Warm Winter.

There is nothing better than a warm, spicy fragrance to top off a man’s winter wardrobe. If you are forgetting a fragrance in the morning, you are missing out on a crucial part of grooming – something that can create a lasting impression with people. Fragrances are very personal, and set differently on everyones individual skin chemistry, so try on your fragrance of choice and walk around with it on your skin for a while to see if you like how the notes react after an hour or so of wear. If you can get a small tester bottle, even better! Most retailers have testers that are totally free, and let you test drive a new fragrance for a few days – all you have to do is ask! I have narrowed down my fragrance collection to my top three warm winter fragrances that I would recommend you try! Each fragrance is easily worn casually, or with a dressier outfit for an evening out with friends!

1. Tom Ford: Grey Vetiver

I just purchased Grey Vetiver this year, and I absolutely fell in love. It is definitely a more unique, complex fragrance but it sets in such a soft, subtle way that it has become an absolute everyday go-to for me. Tom Ford has always been good at creating very distinctly upscale, masculine fragrances and this one is definitely no exception. I would consider this fragrance to be a little bit more fashion forward, and thus it may not appeal to everyone. In order to decide whether or not you like how the fragrance settles you absolutely must try it on. I found that it smelled very different from bottle to skin, and I liked it even more once I had let it settle for about 10 minutes. I also find that it lasts a really long time, but in such a perfectly subtle way. The fragrance is not overpowering but simply leaves an impression of a warm, clean earthiness.

Notes: Vetiver, Orange flower, Grapefruit, Aromatic sage, Orris, Nutmeg, Pimento, Amber woods and Oak moss

2. Tom Ford: Azure Lime

Another Tom Ford classic, only this time a cut above. Azure Lime is part of the exclusive (and priced accordingly) Private Blend Collection. Rich extracts go into every Private Blend fragrance, and they make for something that is really unbeatable when you compare other fragrance brands. The best way that I can describe the wearability of Azure Lime is warm, sporty, and lightly fresh. This fragrance is great for everyday wear, but unlike a lot of sport fragrances, it has just the right amount of warmth to make it an appropriate choice for the colder months. It is the warmth that makes Azure Lime a really rich, well-rounded fragrance that doesn’t smell as cheap as a lot of sport fragrances. I always choose to wear this fragrance on more casual days, but what I really love is that it is a lighter option than the other two fragrances in the list – which provides me with a nice range of choice if I start getting tired of one fragrance or another. It simply goes the extra mile towards being something really special, and classic that everyone will notice on your skin!

Notes: Vibrant citrus, Sophisticated flowers, Warm wood and Sensual musk

3. Yves Saint Laurent: L’Homme

L’Homme is the original in a growing set of spin-off fragrances, and is a true classic men’s fragrance. It is warm, clean and well balanced masculine fragrance. Of the three fragrances listed, this one is definitely the strongest, even when settled on the skin. I find that L’Homme stays very consistent throughout a days wear, and doesn’t fade dramatically. I always get compliments whenever I wear this fragrance, and it is definitely a well-loved choice that I would recommend anyone try! Although I would still consider L’Homme to be an everyday fragrance, with my collection I typically opt to wear it when I am more dressed-up  – either going to work, or going out with friends. That being said, it is a true classic that you can’t really go wrong with – for you, or a gift for someone else. Just don’t spray too much, it is best when you wear no more than 4 sprays!

Notes: Citrus peel, Ginger, Basil blossoms, Violet leaves, Vetiver and Tonka bean

When you go out and buy one of these fragrances, or any other one that you feel suits your personality and skin chemistry make sure you get the best bang for your buck – If you really like a fragrance, and you plan on wearing it on a regular basis, always purchase the 100ml/3.4oz bottles! The price difference for 50% more product is often very slight, but it will always end up being worth it. I hope these tips and recommendations help you find a great new fragrance, so good luck and happy shopping!
